Jefferson forest/ bond lake is a beautiful place to hike. Not many steep climbs so it's very suitable for an easy-moderate hike. There is a parking lot off of the Bethesda side road, and parking is free. No restrooms.
The scenery around the lake is pretty good. If you like to walk on the trail, you can scan the QR code on the roadside to download the app. Small parking lot.
Beautiful trails that are part of a network of nature trails. Great for walking or biking. The lake is fantastic, people were swimming (it is NOT recommended, high bacteria count), fishing, kayaking, sunbathing, and picnicking. Lots of families and people of all ages. There are trail markers to guide you. It's a good idea to take a pic of a guide-map on your phone for easier navigation.
Lots of fun!
I can’t describe what an amazing place this is. Early in the mornings it is heaven in the middle of the city! I was reading somewhere that this lake used to be a major tourist attraction in the early 1900 but is now just home to a lot of local neighborhoods and and natural flora and fauna. The bond lake trail offers a great trek around the lake as well as deep into the forest. There are a lot of birds to observe. The only disadvantage is there is no parking space at all, so be prepared for that if you are only visiting here.
Quite and peaceful trail around the lake. You can paddle board and swim. I love the atmosphere. Finding a parking spot is a bit tricky.
If you visited the Bond Lake in the fall, your mind would be bonded with the images of fall foliage reflection in the water and the path surrounded by colorful trees. The trail is around the lake, a short but moderately challenging route. A very busy spot, avoid weekends or even weekdays afternoon. Parkings are limited. The trail is connected to the Oak Ridges trail.
This place is gorgeous year round, but especially in the autumn. Definitely a hidden gem. Once you’re walking through the trails, it doesn’t feel as if you’re in Richmond Hill anymore.
Highly recommend visiting in the winter as well and walking across the frozen lake!
Had a nice little hike around this lake. Distance is about 3KM and perfect for those new to hiking, and most of the path is well shaded and offer relaxing outdoor experience. Just make sure to plan your hike well after a rainy day to guarantee a dry trail.
